The Beyou Project
What does the service offer?
BeYou is an identity‑affirming, inclusive programme for LGBTQIA+ children and young people, including those who are questioning or exploring who they are. The service provides safe, supportive group spaces where young people can meet peers, build confidence, learn life skills, and feel a sense of belonging. In Kent, BeYou also offers one‑to‑one sessions for young people who may benefit from short‑term individual support. An online parent/carer session is available to help adults feel more confident in supporting LGBTQIA+ young people.
How can it help?
BeYou helps young people feel more confident in themselves, improve their wellbeing, build safe friendships, and navigate challenges related to identity, relationships, school or home life. Group sessions create a supportive community, while one‑to‑one sessions provide space for personal goal‑setting, confidence‑building and staying safe.
Who is it for?
LGBTQIA+ children and young people aged 8–25, including those who are questioning their identity.
Referrals are accepted for ages 8–18, with young adults aged 19–25 supported through ongoing participation or agreed exceptions.
How it is delivered?
- Face‑to‑face: Regular group sessions for 13–17‑year‑olds in venues across Kent.
- One‑to‑one: Up to six structured sessions, depending on the requirements of the young person, delivered face‑to‑face where possible.
- Online: Parent/carer sessions and occasional virtual support depending on need.
- Duration: Typically a six‑session group cycle, with flexibility for accessibility or additional support.
