What does the service offer?
Mind and Body is a level 2 psychoeducation programme, structured to support young people who are experiencing self‑harm or those at risk of self harming due to mental wellbeing struggles. It is a combined programme encompassing group learning and individual sessions, teaching healthy coping strategies and supporting young people to find new positive ways to manage their emotions.
How can it help?
The programme helps young people feel more in control of their emotions, cope with difficult thoughts or feelings in safer ways, reduce distress, and build confidence. It gives practical tools they can use in everyday life and supports them to strengthen their wellbeing over time.
Who is it for?
Young people aged 13 to 17 who are struggling with self‑harm or emotional wellbeing difficulties.
How is it delivered?
- Face‑to‑face or online (options within schools and out in the community)
- Mostly group sessions, plus three one‑to‑one sessions (at the start, midpoint, and end)
- 8 weekly one‑hour group sessions, with a 4–6 week break after session 6 to practise skills
- Total programme length: 3–6 months
CBT Service
What does the service offer?
Mind and Body provides Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) for children and young people experiencing anxiety, low mood, panic, OCD, phobias or trauma‑related difficulties. High‑intensity CBT is delivered by qualified CBT Therapists, and low‑intensity CBT is offered by trainee Children’s Wellbeing Practitioners (CWPs). Sessions help young people understand how their thoughts, feelings and behaviours are connected, and teach practical strategies to manage difficult emotions and build long‑term resilience.
How can it help?
The service helps young people reduce anxiety and low mood, feel more in control, develop healthier thinking patterns, and learn coping skills they can use in everyday life. It aims to improve wellbeing, confidence and emotional stability over time.
Who is it for?
Young people aged 13 to 17.
Trainee CWPs can work with young people from age 11 and can also offer parent‑based interventions where suitable.
How is it delivered?
- Delivered virtually, with face‑to‑face only in exceptional circumstances
- One‑to‑one sessions (some group work available for parents)
- 6 to 16 weekly sessions, depending on need
